CALL FOR NOMINATIONS FOR 2011 RCEA AWARDS
It is always an honor to be able to recognize our peers who have been doing outstanding work in the field of rehabilitation counseling and education. Their professionalism and dedication bring awareness and credibility to rehabilitation and to the work we all do with individuals with disabilities.
Once again, you have an opportunity to recognize one or more of your colleagues or staff members. The Rehabilitation Counselors and Educators Association (RCEA) is now accepting nominations for the following awards:
RCEA Living Legend Meritorious Award
This award is presented to an individual who meets the following criteria:
- Notable leadership in the field of rehabilitation and/or education at the state, regional and national arena for a period of at least 10 years.
- Contribution of national importance to the development of techniques or methods in the application of such knowledge to the advancement of rehabilitation counseling and/or education.
Clayton Morgan Memorial Award of Excellence
This award is named after Dr. Clayton A. Morgan who was known nationally for his leadership and contributions to the field of rehabilitation counseling. He established the vocational rehabilitation counseling program at Oklahoma State University in 1958. He was the first recipient of the Distinguished Career Service Award given by the National Council on Rehabilitation Education. He was an author of nationally and internationally known books on rehabilitation.
This award is presented to an individual who meets the following criteria:
- Responsible for the development of a program in rehabilitation counseling and/or education that has state, regional, or national impact.
- Author or co-author of notable publications e.g. books, articles, monographs relevant to rehabilitation counseling and/or education.
- Recipient of at least three prior awards in rehabilitation counseling and/or education from a state, regional, or national organization.
RCEA Counselor of the Year Award
This award is presented to a rehabilitation counselor that meets the following criteria:
- Practicing rehabilitation counselor
- Must be a current member of RCEA
- Must be a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor or a Licensed Professional Counselor
- Must have served as an officer, board member, or committee chair in their counselors association in the state or regional chapters or national level.
The nomination process is simplified to promote active participation. Individuals who are not RCEA members can make nominations, and this requires the co-sponsorship of an RCEA member. A letter of nomination, letters of recommendation, employer and co-worker written support statements and association or community involvement information need to be submitted with the nomination.
